A New Home for Healthy Aging

Building the Future of the Canby Adult Center

The Canby Adult Center has helped older adults stay healthy, connected, and independent. Now, we’re building a permanent home for the future.

50 Years of Connection, Care & Community

From its humble beginnings as a meals program at St. Patrick Catholic Church in the 1970s, the Canby Adult Center has spent five decades building trust and delivering essential services to older adults in the Greater Canby area. Today, it’s a vital hub that supports the well-being of more than 1,000 community members and their families with meals, connection, and care.

A Place That Comes Alive

Walk through the doors of the Canby Adult Center and you’ll feel it: the welcome, the warmth, the energy. It’s not just a place for meals or fitness classes, it’s a place where people come to engage and belong.

On any given day, you’ll find laughter in the lunchroom, sweat in the fitness studio, and friendships forming in every corner. It’s a place of life, connection, and joy.

THE CHALLENGE

Our Current Facility is Failing

Our current city-owned facility is failing our community. Built in 1983, it simply cannot meet the needs of today’s growing population of older adults.

We would need millions just to bring our current facility up to standard without gaining ownership.

CRITICAL FACILITY ISSUES

  • Structural Deterioration
Leaking roof, failing windows, aging HVAC and electrical systems
  • Inadequate Space
    Cannot accommodate growing demand
  • Insufficient Fitness Area
    Limited room for wellness programs
  • Parking Constraints
    Not enough accessible parking available
  • No Ownership
    Major investment without gaining ownership
THE SOLUTION

A New Home for Healthy Aging

Thanks to Canby United Methodist Church, who sold us the building and continues to hold Sunday services on-site, we’re creating a vibrant, shared space that offers:
  • Full Ownership Enables sustainable funding and long-term improvements.
  • Expanded Program Space
More room for fitness programs, classes, and social activities.
  • Modernized Kitchen & Dining
Expanded facilities to serve more nutritious meals.
  • Improved Accessibility
    Enhanced parking and ADA-compliant features.
This isn’t just about bricks and mortar, it’s about securing the future of healthy aging in Canby for generations to come.

“We’ve outgrown our current space, there’s so much demand for what we offer, and not enough room to meet it. I see the potential every day: more classes, more meals shared, more lives touched. This new home will let us grow into the vibrant, inclusive center our community deserves.”

Dear Friends,

For 50 years, the Canby Adult Center has been a beacon of hope,
health, and community for older adults in the Greater Canby area.
What began as a modest meals program at St. Patrick Catholic Church
in the 1970s has grown into an essential hub serving more than
1,000 community members annually.

Today, we stand at a crossroads. Our current facility, built
in 1983, is literally crumbling around us. The roof leaks,
windows are failing, and critical systems are deteriorating.
More importantly, we’ve outgrown our space. There’s simply
not enough room to serve the growing number of older adults
who need us.

But out of challenge comes opportunity. Through a remarkable
partnership with Canby United Methodist Church, we have secured
a building that will become our permanent home, a space we will
own, not rent. This is more than a real estate transaction;
it’s an investment in the future of healthy aging in our community.

Thanks to strong public investment and community leadership,
we are already almost halfway to securing the funds needed to
acquire, renovate, and equip our new home. The City of Canby
has made a significant commitment, and we are encouraged by
additional public support and our designation as Canby Rotary’s
2025 President’s Project. With this foundation in place, we are
now inviting the broader community to join us in bringing this
vision fully to life.

Every dollar raised goes toward creating a vibrant space where
older adults can maintain their health, combat isolation, access
nutritious meals, and build meaningful connections. This is
preventive healthcare at its finest, offering older adults the
tools and resources they need to safely age in place and engage
in community life.

We invite you to join us in this transformational project.
Together, we can build a center that will serve Canby’s older
adults for decades to come.

With gratitude,

Kathy Robinson
